George Price Hays was born September 27, 1892 in Chee Foo, China to Presbyterian missionary parents. He attended El Reno High School, El Reno, Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma A and M College in 1917. During World War I, he was commissioned as a second Lieutenant with the 10th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division.
